Radiant heater, as opposed to warm air systems (such as a forced air unit heaters), delivers the source of heat to the floor level. Radiant energy is the oldest form of heating used to provide comfort and is the basis for all heating systems. Radiant energy is a pure radiation and is absorbed by an object without having any physical contact with the heat source or by heating the surrounding air, as is the case with convective or forced air systems. Radiant heaters are the most efficient and effective methods of delivering heat.
A gas fired radiant heating system is similar to the sun radiant out put. Like the sun, the radiant tube too emits radiant energy in all directions. Conventional losses from a radiant tube is not covered by a reflector. The radiant energy is absorbed by the building's heat sink. This heat sink in turn re-radiates energy and produces warmth that is felt in the surrounding air. As radiant heaters do not waste energy in heating the surrounding air (like in case of forced and conventional hot systems), they greatly reduce the heat costs.
Hot gas is moved through the radiant tube either by creating vacuum or power pressure. The radiant energy is produced by the reflectors positioned above the radiant tubes. Reflectors are present above the radiant tube so that they can direct the radiant energy on to the floor area. The floor is the primary source of heat. The radiant energy gets converted in to heat when absorbed by objects which are present in the path.
