Different Types of Animals Which Can be Reared as Pets

A pet is a household animal kept by human beings for pleasure and as a source of companion. There are many species of different animals, but only few are kept long enough. And those are considered as domestic animals. Some kinds of animals which can be considered as domestic animals or pets are:

• Mammals
• Birds
• Fish
• Reptiles
• Amphibians
• Exotic Mammals

Mammals: Mammals include the following:

Dogs - Dogs are the best pets and they are noted to be loyal, playful and friendly. Dogs have a tail, long tongue and perform many roles for humans such as hunting, herding, pulling loads, military companionship, etc.

Cats - Cats are carnivorous mammals and are most popular pets in the world. They have flexible body, quick reflexes and sharp teeth to kill small prey. They have the ability to listen and see in darkness to catch prey.

Goats - Goats are domestic animals used to provide milk and meat. Farmers also use their skin, bones and sinew for clothing and building tools.

Rabbits - These are small mammals and are found in several parts of the world. Rabbits habitats include meadows, forests, woods, grasslands and wetlands. They have long ears for detecting predators.

Sheep - Sheep are important for giving wool, meat, milk and agricultural purpose.

Birds: Birds are kept because of their sweet sounds and beautiful colors. Birds are soft and fun to hold. Some birds that can be kept as pets are parrots, chicken, domestic turkeys and crows.

Fishes: Fishes are the pets which can be easily handled. When taken out from natural water body and domesticated at home, they are required to constantly kept in aquariums. These fishes live with the help of water and oxygen, which are to be constantly provided in the aquarium.

Reptiles: Some of the pet reptiles include tortoises, snakes, lizards and turtles.

Amphibians: Some of them are frogs, salamanders. They need to be wet because they diffuse oxygen from their damp skin and hence require water to survive.

Exotic Mammals: Some of them are arctic foxes, mongoose, deer, squirrel monkeys, cheetah, leopard, lion.

Though domesticating different animals is curious and exciting task, it takes a lot of patience to do. The pet animals should be given appropriate protection and comfort so as to make them live with you.
