Physical Harmful Effects of Drug Addiction

The physical effects of drug abuse on the body may be different and it depends on the method of drug use, and it depends on duration and frequency of drug, this is revealed by National Institute on Drug Addiction.

Hallucinations, paranoia, aggression, memory problems, seizures, depression, brain damage and stroke are caused by drug abuse. Effects on respiratory by drug abuse are emphysema, asthma and lung cancer. Abnormal heart beat, collapsed veins and heart attack, these are cardiac effects caused by drug abuse. Effects on unborn babies such as premature birth, miscarriage, low birth weight and behavioral problems, these are caused by drug abuse. Gastrointestinal effects of vomiting or nausea, kidney and liver damage, pain. Shortness or hormonal problems are resulted by drug abuse during childhood.

As per the National Institutes of Health, after just one time of using drugs, physical effects of drug may occur. After the first use of narcotics like cocaine, it may result in a fatal heart attack. There are short term effects of drug use like increased appetite, blood pressure, long term physical effects such as chronic cough,which may be week or months and cancer or organ damage has permanent effects.
