It is easy to purchase any product or item through online. But some problems, arise due to online shopping, such as possibility of fraud and lack of privacy and security. So you need to be careful while purchasing online. There are few tips to follow while online purchasing, such as:

Know about Merchant: It is better to know about name and reputation of the seller, or store or company, before purchase any thing. Find the information from Internet news sources, directories and rating services about online companies. Get the information from buyers' guides, lists of tips, links to helpful resources from website which is maintained by the Federal Trade Commission.


Know about secured websites:
Generally the Secure Socket Layer technology is used by many online shopping sites to encrypt the credit card information, which you send through the World Wide Web. So you need to check the security through the web address when you are asked the credit card information.. A secured website starts with “https:” instead of “http:”.


You can also check the security through different methods like :

  • There is an icon of a lock visible in the status bar.
  • Icon of locked padlock symbol is visible on the bottom of the screen.
  • There is an icon of an unbroken key visible at the bottom of the screen.

Know about privacy policy: You should be careful while giving confidential information, like Social Security number, credit card number, etc. These information must be given only to the websites which are successful in maintaining privacy policies.


Pay by credit card:
It is better to pay using credit cards instead of using check, cash or debit card, etc. Because your liability is limited to 50 dollars under the federal law, if you have any unauthorized charge on your credit card.
