Tools for Controlling Automated Devices

The number of computer applications and human activities are rapidly increasing. Computer aided technologies enable the design, analysis and manufacture of products in industries. Computer aided technologies (CAT) create complex systems on the basis of mathematical and organizational tools.

Programmable Logic Controller(PLC)
PLC is an automation tool and is an example of industrial control system. PLCs are used in many machines and industries to synchronize the flow of inputs and outputs.

Human Machine Interface (HMI)
HMI is a computerized system which is mostly used in manufacturing environments to handle the interaction between human and the machine that controls the automated system. HMI initiates a sequence of instructions required for communicating with the system and examines what response is generated by the system. HMI also initiates, stops and controls the actions of the machine.

Artificial Neural Network
Simple artificial nodes called neurons, processing elements constitute the processing elements of biological neural networks, are connected together to form a network of nodes which is inspired by the functional aspects of biological neural network.

Distributed Control System(DCS)
DCS is used for controlling a manufacturing system where the control elements are not located at a single place but they are distributed throughout the system, the components in the sub-system are controlled by one or more controllers.

All these help in controlling the automated systems.
